
Little baby bird Pippo falls behind his flock on their way south for the winter and lands in the chimney of little girl dog Lotte. Lotte decides that Pippo must be taken south to be reunited with his flock. Lotte's father, Oskar the inventor, has just finished building a flying machine. Oskar's friend, the old traveler dog Klaus, is invited along on the trip. The exciting journey south begins. New adventures and encounters await our travelers in each episode of the serial.
Many of these new acquaintances have run into difficulties and the travelers help them. James the polar bear, for example, whose personal iceberg has melted, or three actor cats who have come down with severe colds. James stays on from now on to work in an icicle greenhouse. Lotte, Pippo and Klaus perform the play themselves instead of the sick cats. Some of their new acquaintances, though, help the travelers themselves.
Thus little blue elephants sew a new parachute for the dogs, Mihail the master mushroom baker mole helps them find their lost flying machine in a cave. The travelers safely reach their destination in the south in the final episode of the serial. There Pippo soon faces the choice of winning the bird decathlon or helping a competitor in trouble and thus ending up in last place. Pippo chooses the second option without hesitating. The way south has taught him that helping someone in need is more important than any kind of victory.

Episode 1: THE JOURNEY BEGINSThousands of migratory birds are making their annual journey south. Tired little baby bird Pippo falls behind the flock of birds and makes an emergency landing into the chimney of girl dog Lotte. Lotte decides to take Pippo south to rejoin the migratory birds. Lotte’s father Oskar is an inventor. He has just finished building a flying machine. Oskar’s friend, the old traveler dog Klaus, has the map they will need. The journey south can begin.
Episode 2: MOLE THE MASTER MUSHROOM BAKERThe travelers take shelter from the rain and lightening in a cave. The flying machine unexpectedly rolls into the depths of the cave. Oskar and Klaus hurry to search for the flying machine. Lotte and Pippo meet Mihail the master mushroom baker mole. He helps the travelers find their flying machine.
Episode 3: ADVENTURE IN THE SWAMPLotte loses her shoes as they fly over a swamp. Oskar and Lotte descend to the bottom of the swamp in diving suits to search for the lost shoes. There they meet Nikolai the astronomer. Nikolai is worried because hundreds of shoes have blocked up the swamp sky. Lotte and Oskar clear the swamp sky of shoes.
Episode 4: CASTAWAYSThe travelers lose the firewood for the flying machine as they fly over a volcano in the middle of the sea due to a volcano eruption. Oskar lands the flying machine in the water. There the travelers meet three chimney sweep cats. The cats give up their raft to the travelers to be used as firewood. In return, they take the cats to the volcano. The chimney sweeps eagerly set about cleaning the soot from the volcano.
Episode 5: BLUE ELEPHANTSA storm rips the parachute of the flying machine to shreds. Oskar lands the flying machine and starts to repair the parachute with the help of Klaus. Lotte and Pippo discover a village of little blue elephants. The elephants come to the aid of the travelers and sew them a new parachute.
Episode 6: ENCOUNTER WITH MOUNTAINEERSThe wheel of the flying machine breaks as they fly over mountains. Lotte and Pippo descend to the top of a mountain to have a picnic while Oskar repairs the wheel. Two mountaineers, Karl and Friedrich, though, are climbing toward the mountaintop in the hopes of being the first dogs to conquer that mountaintop. Lotte and Pippo manage to hide from Karl and Friedrich and return to the flying machine.
Episode 7: NUT RABBITSThe travelers discover a primitive tribe of nut rabbits living in the Stone Age as they fly over a nut forest. Oskar brings the tribe closer to civilization by inventing a washing machine and a catapult for them.
Episode 8: ADVENTURE IN THE DESERTThe water in the water clock of the travelers turns to steam as they fly over a hot desert. The dogs venture forth into the desert in search of water and find sandcake salesman Ibrahim the desert greyhound. The travelers acquire a sand clock from Ibrahim instead of a water clock.
Episode 9: ENCOUNTER WITH A POLAR BEARThe travelers rescue James the polar bear from the ocean. They take the sick polar bear to Doctor Pam the rabbit who lives nearby. Doctor Pam cures the polar bear with the help of icicles she grows in her greenhouse. In return, James the polar bear stays with Doctor Pam as the icicle gardener.
Episode 10: THE PRINCESS AND THE DRAGONThe travelers decide to stop at a historical bell tower. Because on precisely this day, three cats will present their famous play THE PRINCESS AND THE DRAGON in the bell tower. Unfortunately, the play is in danger of being cancelled - the cats have come down with severe colds. On Pippo’s initiative, the travelers themselves successfully perform the play for a large audience.
Episode 11: FALLING STARLotte and Pippo see a glowing star in the sky falling to the ground as they sit by the fire at night. The friends go to investigate the incident. They meet Freddy the fox after many adventures, who is afraid to sleep in the dark. Lotte and Pippo give the glowing star as a present to Freddy to light up his room.
Episode 12: LIGHTHOUSETheir destination in the south is near already. Unfortunately, a red light is switched on in a lighthouse that regulates air traffic. It turns out that lighthouse keeper Boris the bear has fallen asleep. Lotte and Pippo enter the world of dreams of Boris in order to explain the necessity of why he should wake up.
Episode 13: DOWN SOUTHThe travelers safely reach their destination in the south. The annual bird decathlon is presently being organized. Pippo also decides to participate. Pippo is faced with a choice during the competition. He could win or help Karl the bird, who has had an accident. Pippo helps Karl, after which Pippo and Karl become great friends. The flying machine with Lotte, Klaus and Oskar sets out on their way back north.
