Sola Media News Stuttgart based sales agent Sola
Media has been chosen to handle Jan Verheyen’s popular family
soccer drama Gilles. The film will screen for buyers in Cannes on Saturday
20 May as part of a full day of Flanders Screenings.
Cannes, May 2006 ‘We are delighted to represent international sales on Gilles. A film with values, that fits perfectly into our line up of high quality family films,’ says Solveig Langelund, ceo of Sola Media. ‘There are not a lot of good family films on the market that can inspire children and their parents to talk about it afterwards.’ The inspirational film tells the story of a talented and passionate 12-year-old soccer player (Gilles) whose life and ultimate dreams fall apart when his father and coach dies unexpectedly. Since opening in Belgium at the end of 2005, Gilles has sold well over 230,000 admissions in Flanders alone and was the recipient of the Audience Award at this year's Belgian Oscars, the Plateau Awards. Producer of the film is Dirk Impens for Ghent-based Menuet Films. ‘When you make a film, you make it for an audience,’ states Gilles director Jan Verheyen. ‘But in order to reach an audience you need a distributor, a sales agent, a marketing person – people who can help you to find that audience. Gilles already found a huge audience in its home territory Belgium and I'm very proud and happy that the filmhas now found an international home at Sola Media. I look forward to working with them on this moving, inspiring and entertaining film.’ ‘Soccer is always popular and constantly in the news and in our dreams, especially in a World Cup year, and that should encourage the buyers to check out this very special family film that has already scored heavily at the Belgian box office,’ says Christian De Schutter, manager for Flanders Image. ‘With its focus on commercial and award-winning features, edgy documentaries and high-quality children’s films, Sola Media is the perfect partner to introduce Gilles to the right international buyers; many of whom come from countries where football is the main sport either played or watched by children. Children who can relate to Gilles, his dream and his story.’ Gilles screens in Cannes on Saturday 20 May at 9.30 (am) in Star 4, and on Wednesday 24 May at 10 (am) in Olympia 5.
