The Blindflyers Synopsis
Marie and Inga, both 13, have been best friends for a long time. Like all girls their age they share the same problems: boys, their looks, the teachers...They do not differ from other teenagers except in one way, - they are blind. They live in a boarding school for the blind and they love music. Marie and Inga get carried away when they hear that a school band about to take part in a TV contest is recruiting extras. The boys agree at the audition that they are talented but their blindness is not a media asset. The rejection does not depress Maria for long because she feels secure and sheltered within the walls of her boarding school. Her hitherto-orderly life suddenly takes a new turn when she helps a young Russian émigré to hide from the police in the school observatory. Herbert wants to return to his homeland, Kazakstan, against his father's wish. He doesn't want to become a German Marie is attracted to the taciturn boy and wants to help him but 500 euros for his ticket home is a lot of money. Inga hits upon the idea that the three play music on the streets: "The Blindgänger" (blind duds) are a success and make money but their luck is short-lived for Herbert's gang robs them.' But then the trio, still full of enthusiasm and with the help of fellow-boarder Daniel, plans a fresh start; - to produce their own video clip for a TV contest. Secretly, in the boarding school, over the weekend when the others have gone home. But again their plans are thwarted because of Herbert's criminal past.
